The moving dragon

As you may know I’ve been involved in creative writing groups for some time now; a few of us have begun to met separately to promote our writing, and to build an on-line writing community in Somerset, and in the west Country. We have started a blog, and we also have a Facebook page.

It’s quite exciting as we don’t actually know where we’re going! The blog is in its very early stage, and we are hoping to publish others’ writing as well as our own! In my writing groups I just want to get people writing, and expressing themselves through the written word – and it can be anything! I write novels, and I write my blog here, but other people are writing short stories, reflective pieces, poems, articles… every sort of thing you could imagine!

We have no idea how it will all work out, and maybe we have launched it too soon before we had sorted out all the nuts and bolts of it – but the risk of doing too much planning is that you get bogged down in the detail!

You may wonder at the title… well the red dragon is the emblem for Somerset, and a dragon rampant, not crawling on its belly as one of us described it, and the ‘moving’ part of it is from the famous Edward FitzGerald translation of the Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám:

The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.

So, here are links to the blog and the page… Early days but lets see where it goes, where it takes us!

… and…
